How do I create a new password?

This article will walk you through the steps to creating a new password.

If you are on a fool.com web page, look in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You will see a light gray bar that runs along the top of the screen, and all the way to the right it will either say 'Log In' or 'Log Out'

If this says ‘Log Out’ - then you are already logged in and can access your premium services.

If this says ‘Log In’, click this link which will take you to the Login page.

After clicking the ‘Log In’ button, it will take you to the Login page.

This password reset button is located on the Login page directly above the blue 'Sign in' button.

By clicking this link, you will be taken to a page that states ‘Reset Password’.

On this page - enter your email address, and click the blue button that says 'Send Email.'

After clicking this button, a green box will appear asking you to 'Check your email. We have just sent you an email to reset your password. Not seeing the email? Check spam.'

You will receive an email titled ‘Create New Password' and this will be sent shortly after clicking the aforementioned button.

From this email, you will click the green button that says ‘Reset your password.’

By clicking this button, you will be redirected to a page where you may then reset your password.

Your new password has certain requirements for what it must include. These are:

  • 8-22 characters (no spaces)

  • One lower and one uppercase letter

  • One number

  • One special character (e.g. @, %, *)

This is an example of an acceptable password: Fool123$

This password is acceptable because it includes: at least 8 characters, no spaces, at least one capital letter, at least one lowercase letter, at least one number, and at least one special character.

This is an example of an unacceptable password: fool1

This password is unacceptable, because it does not include: at least one capital letter, at least one special character, and it is not at least 8 characters.

You will see two password fields: ‘New password’ and ‘Re-enter new password.’

You will need to enter the exact same password in each field.

After entering your password in each field, click the blue button directly below the ‘Re-enter new password’ field that says ‘Reset password’

If the passwords typed in the two fields do not match, you will receive an error message stating ‘Please correct the following: Passwords do not match.’

If you receive this error, simply re-enter your password in each field. To ensure that the passwords match, you can click the ‘Eye’ symbol to the right of either field. This will allow you to see what you have typed, and ensure that the passwords match.

If your passwords match, you will be successfully logged in. You will be redirected to ‘Your Motley Fool Services.’
