How do I create a new password?

If you are on a fool.com web page, look in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You will see a light gray bar that runs along the top of the screen, and all the way to the right it will either say 'Log In' or 'Log Out'

If this says ‘Log Out’ - then you are already logged in and can access your premium services.

If this says ‘Log In’, click this link which will take you to the Login page.

After clicking the ‘Log In’ button, it will take you to the Login page.

Here you will find two options:

*Reset your password*

This button is located on the Login page directly below the Password field above the Sign in button.

By clicking on this link, you will be taken to a page that states "Password Reset".

On this page, enter your email address and click the blue button that says 'Send Email,' to have a password reset email sent to your email address on file.

After clicking this button, a green box will appear that states, 'Check your email. We have just sent you an email to reset your password. Not seeing the email? Check spam.'

The subject line of the email will be "Create New Password".

You will receive an email titled 'Your password reset request’ and this will be sent shortly after clicking the aforementioned button.

From this email, you will click on the green button that says "Reset your password."

By clicking this button, you will be redirected to a page where you may then reset your password.

The new password you create needs to be at least 8 characters in length and cannot include spaces.

Your new password will also need to contain at least 3 of the following 4 types of characters:

  • At least one lower case letter (a-z)
  • At least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
  • At least one number/digit (0-9)
  • At least one special character (e.g. @, %, *)

This is an example of an acceptable password: Fool123$

This password is acceptable because it includes: at least 8 characters, no spaces, at least one capital letter, at least one lowercase letter, at least one number, and at least one special character.

This is an example of an unacceptable password: fool1

This password is unacceptable, because it does not include: at least one capital letter, at least one special character, and it is not at least 8 characters.

You will see two password fields: "New password" and "Re-enter new password."

You will need to enter the exact same password in each field.

After entering your password in each field, click the blue button directly below the "Re-enter new password" field that says "Reset password".

If the passwords typed in the two fields do not match, you will receive an error message stating "Please correct the following: Passwords do not match."

If you receive this error, simply re-enter your password in each field. To ensure that the passwords match, you can click on the "Eye" symbol to the right of either field. This will allow you to see what you have typed and ensure that the passwords match.

If your password matches, you will be successfully logged in. You will be redirected to "Your Motley Fool Services."

*Request a temporary passcode*

By clicking this option, right underneath the Sign In button, you will be taken to a page that has a field to enter your email address. After entering your email address, click "Send the temporary passcode."

You will be sent a one-time code to your email address that will be valid for one hour and will let you log in with just one click.

You will see that this page now has a spot for you to enter your verification code.

Check your email inbox.

This email will be titled "Your temporary passcode request" and will be sent shortly after clicking the aforementioned button.

From this email, you will receive a verification code. Copy the verification code.

Go back to the web page you were previously on, and paste (or type out) the verification code into the '6-Digit Temporary Passcode' field (where it says, "ex. 123456").

After entering the verification code, click the blue 'Submit passcode' button.

After clicking this button, you will be redirected to "Your Motley Fool Services" and at this point, you will be temporarily logged in.

After one hour this link will expire and you will not be able to use this link for future sign-ins.
